Haynes Owners Workshop Manuals or 'Haynes Manuals' as they are more commonly known are a series of in depth, practical, hands on manuals from the Haynes Publishing group. They are aimed at both professional garage mechanics aswell as the 'do it yourself' enthusiasts. The biggest range of Haynes Manuals focuses on the automotive industry, with maintenance and repair manuals for over 300 car models and 130 motorcycles. This figure increases on a yearly basis with the introduction of new publications.
Haynes Manuals are named after John haynes OBE. His first publication was written in 1956 while attending school, he wrote a book about building a 'special' based on the Austin 7. He went on to write two further books while on national service in the Royal Air Force. He then opened Haynes Publishing, which was founded in 1960, and the first officially titled 'Haynes Owners Workshop Manual' was published in 1965 for the Austin-Healey Sprite.
Many Haynes Manuals have a cover illustration of a technical cutaway view of the vehicle they are for: all of the drawings were hand-drawn by Terry Davey and bear his signature.Haynes generally has full cooperation from the world vehicle manufacturers, who provide technical information such as wiring diagrams and mechanical tolerances.
